Christianne Carin, Chief Executive Officer and Chair

Ms. Carin combines a background in technical design and commercialization, science and business with over 24 years experience in management and innovation. Ms. Carin is the Chair of our Board and Chief Executive Officer, having held those positions since she founded EarthRenew in December 1999 and was our Chief Financial Officer from July 2004 to September 2007. Ms. Carin is the primary inventor and continues to be the main developer of our technology. With her business development expertise, she leads the EarthRenew team in all aspects of product, process and equipment technology developments, commercialization, diversification, and adaptation. 

In addition, Ms. Carin provides direction in corporate and financial strategies, providing an innovative work environment for a creative and talented team. From 1993 to 1999, prior to founding EarthRenew, Ms. Carin was a consultant providing financial, business development and management services for a number of firms in British Columbia and Alberta including food and agriculture, livestock, manufacturing, hospitality and air transport. Services included strategic planning, corporate restructuring, technology commercialization, financing and mergers and acquisitions. From 1988 to 1992, Ms. Carin founded and headed a full service architectural and engineering firm in the Vancouver area providing services to governments and private sector clients throughout British Columbia, Canada. Special projects included engineering designs for hospitals for hazardous and recycling waste management programs. From 1981 to 1985, she was founder and President of a computer graphics firm in North Vancouver, providing innovative computer graphics services and established remote timeshare CADCAM services for engineering and architectural design firms in the Vancouver area. Ms. Carin served for seven years as a board member and four years as Vice Chair with the Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ms. Carin holds a Master of Business Administration (Honors) degree in International Business from Asia Pacific International Institute (New Zealand), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) degree from the University of British Columbia. Ms. Carin was the winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award — Cleantech category for the prairies region in 2009.


Dr. Al Fedkenheuer, President and Director

Dr. Fedkenheuer has over 30 years experience in management and research in soil and environmental sciences. Dr. Fedkenheuer has been our President since July 2004 and our Chief Operating Officer from September 2004 to April 2010. From September 2002 to July 2004 he was our Executive Vice President and from May 2000 to September 2002 he was our Vice President, Product Research and Development. He has been a director of EarthRenew since May 2000. Over this period Dr. Fedkenheuer managed and contributed to our intellectual property development in both technology and product refinements. His expertise extends to strategic planning, host development, permitting and regulatory affairs as well as leading the development of marketing and sales and product R&D strategies. From 1990 to 1999, Dr. Fedkenheuer was a Senior Research Scientist and from 1982 to 1989 he was a Senior Environmental Specialist at TransCanada Pipelines, Ltd. (formerly NOVA Corporation) in Calgary, Alberta. From 1980 to 1982 Dr. Fedkenheuer was Head, Land Reclamation, Environmental and Social Affairs with Canstar Oil Sands Ltd., Calgary, Alberta and from 1976 to 1980, a Reclamation Research Scientist with Syncrude Canada Ltd. Edmonton, Alberta. Dr. Fedkenheuer cofounded ALCLA Native Plant Restoration Inc. in 1992. He also founded the Canadian Native Plant Centre, a not-for-profit company with which he presently acts as President and Chairman. Dr. Fedkenheuer has served as an Assistant Professor at Lakehead University, Ontario and as an active guest lecturer at the University of Alberta and Montana State University as well as on graduate student supervisory committees. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor, Environmental Design Faculty, University of Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Fedkenheuer holds a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology from the University of Minnesota as well as a Master of Science degree in Forest Soils and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin.


Mark A. Kennedy, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Kennedy has over 24 years of corporate finance experience. Mr. Kennedy has been our Chief Financial Officer since October 2007 and prior to that date had been our Director, Corporate Development since August 2006. At EarthRenew Mr. Kennedy oversees financial reporting, accounting, investor and public relations, budgeting and treasury activities. Prior to joining EarthRenew, Mr. Kennedy was Managing Director, Institutional Equities in the Calgary office ofWestwind Partners Inc. (now ThomasWeisel Partners) from 2005 to 2006, where he had assisted EarthRenew in its first institutional round of fundraising. In Toronto, Ontario Mr. Kennedy was Managing Director, Institutional Equities in 2004 and Head of Institutional Equities with Goepel McDermid (now Raymond James Ltd.) from 2000 to 2003 and from 1993 to 2000, he held the position of Senior Research Analyst with TD Securities Inc., covering pulp and paper and forest product companies. He was with a Canadian chartered bank, Toronto, Ontario from 1984 to 1993 in increasing roles of lending responsibility ending as Manager Corporate Finance in the Corporate and Investment Banking Group. Mr. Kennedy holds an undergraduate business degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario and a Master of Business Administration degree from York University, Ontario.

T. Gene Dillahunty, Executive Vice President

Mr. Dillahunty has over 35 years experience in international intellectual property protection and enforcement programs and worldwide technology licensing. He has been our Executive Vice President since August 2005 and was a director of EarthRenew from March 2005 to April 2010. Mr. Dillahunty joined EarthRenew in September 2004 to head up our global intellectual property program, business development and contracts management. Additionally, he assisted us in engineering management and project management and has led our equipment procurement, project contract management, cross border transactions, insurance and risk management programs. Prior to joining EarthRenew, Mr. Dillahunty was a partner in the intellectual property law firm of Burns, Doane, Swecker and Mathis, LLP (now Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, LLC) in their Redwood Shores, California office from 1987 to 2004, where he managed worldwide intellectual property procurement, licensing and enforcement programs for a wide variety of companies ranging from startups to large corporations and for universities. From 1983 to 1987, Mr. Dillahunty was Division Counsel at Raychem Corporation (now Tyco Electronics Corporation) Menlo Park, California where he was responsible for worldwide intellectual property programs. From 1969 to 1983 Mr. Dillahunty was Patent and Trademark Counsel at Ashland Chemical Company and Ashland Oil, Inc., Columbus, Ohio where he managed a staff of patent and trademark attorneys conducting their international intellectual property procurement and enforcement programs and managed Ashland’s outside counsel in patent litigation. In addition, he was a key member of the team that successfully and extensively licensed Ashland’s chemical technologies worldwide. Mr. Dillahunty currently teaches International Intellectual Property Law to management professionals through the Center for Professional Advancement. He has been guest lecturer on intellectual property management and enforcement at Stanford University Law School and the George Washington University Graduate School of Business and Management.

Mr. Dillahunty is a non-active member of the Virginia and Ohio State Bar Associations, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Licensing Executives Society and the Intellectual Property Owners Organization and is registered to practice at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. Mr. Dillahunty received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and his Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University National Law Center.



Jim Good, Vice President, Corporate Services

Mr. Good has over 25 years experience in human resources. Mr. Good has been our Vice President, Corporate Services since September 2007 and prior to that date had been Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services since March 2006. At EarthRenew, he is responsible for companywide services and oversight in the areas of human resources, plant management, information systems and technology and business services. This includes talent acquisition, employee retention, training and development and performance management initiatives. He leads our cross border human resources strategies including locating and staffing our cluster offices. He provides Board support services primarily in compensation, human resource governance, policies and procedures. Prior to joining EarthRenew, Mr. Good was a Senior Management Consultant with Mastel Associates from 2003 to 2005. From 1978 to 2002, Mr. Good held the positions of Human Resources and Administration Manager, Senior Human Resources Advisor and Supervisor of Compensation and Benefits with Unocal Canada Limited, Calgary, Alberta where he provided a balance of strategic and tactical human resource initiatives through his various roles for a Canadian affiliate of an international, independent oil and gas company. Mr. Good holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and completed an Executive Human Resources Program at Queen’s University.


Dustin Gemmill, Vice President, Legal and Corporate Secretary

Mr. Gemmill has been our Vice President, Legal since September 2008 and prior to that date had been Director, Legal since July 2007. At EarthRenew Mr. Gemmill is responsible for legal compliance matters and commercial contract negotiation. Mr. Gemmill oversees securities regulation and corporate governance at EarthRenew and provides strategic direction on contract negotiation, corporate structuring and equity finance. In addition, Mr. Gemmill manages EarthRenew’s outside counsel in Canada and other jurisdictions. Prior to joining EarthRenew, Mr. Gemmill was a lawyer at Bennett Jones LLP in Calgary where he had assisted EarthRenew as corporate counsel on various matters including several rounds of fundraising. 

Mr. Gemmill practiced with Bennett Jones LLP in the area of corporate and securities law since June 2001 where he advised on equity financings, initial public offerings, private placements, continuous disclosure and corporate governance matters as well as acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures and substantial equity investments. Mr. Gemmill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Queen’s University. He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta.



Don L. Dabbs, Vice President, Business Development

Mr. Dabbs has over 30 years of experience in environmental science, reclamation and has a strong reputation in the field of project development regulatory approvals. He has recently joined EarthRenew following ten years as Senior Vice President and Director of Birch Mountain Resources Ltd. a Toronto Stock Exchange and AMEX listed company. Mr. Dabbs was responsible for obtaining regulatory approvals, maintaining government relations, implementing an environmental management system for the quarry operations north of Fort McMurray, plus consultation and business relations with the First Nations. Mr. Dabbs held increasingly responsible positions with a number of environmental consulting firms from the start of his career in the early 1970s working on a wide range of projects in western Canada, with particular emphasis on oil sands. His early career focused on reclamation research and planning in northern latitudes and directed the preparation of the first full reclamation plans for Suncor and Shell’s Alsands Oil Sands project. He has been called upon to defend his work as an expert witness before the U.S. Federal Power Commission, the National Energy Board and the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board. Mr. Dabbs is a member of the Board of Directors — Alberta Region of The Nature Conservancy of Canada and a member of the Science and Conservation Committee of the National Board of The Nature Conservancy of Canada. Mr. Dabbs is a member of the Alberta Institute of Agrologists and an Honorary Life Member of the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists. Mr. Dabbs received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and his Master of Science in Plant Ecology both from the University of Saskatchewan.
